Pastor Curtis Deterding

Senior Pastor

A 1981 graduate of Concordia College, St. Paul, Minnesota, I started my career as a 9th Grade teacher and the Athletic Director of Holy Cross Lutheran School in North Miami, Florida.  I then continued my education at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, graduating in 1987 with my Masters of Divinity and received my Doctor of Ministry degree in 2005 and have served parishes in Ohio, North Carolina, Minnesota, Illinois and now here at Zion Lutheran Church.

I married my “best friend in the world” Jo Ann on April 3,1982. Together, we have been blessed with 4 daughters and a son, and now 5 grandchildren.

I love playing and officiating soccer, enjoying good food and drink with family and friends, playing fantasy football, Goliath Grouper fishing and spending vacations with family!

DCE Tim Richter

Youth and Family Minister

In my free time I love playing golf, going to the beach, and hanging out with my friends.

Cherie Jacobs

Office Manager

Cherie was born in Orange Park, Florida and moved to Fort Myers. She and her husband Mark live in Lehigh Acres. Cherie has two daughters, Sarah (Devin) and Rebekah, who both live in Lee County, Florida. Cherie has been on Zion’s staff since July 2009.

Cheryl Correll

Bookkeeper.

Prior to that they were residents of Michigan, North of Detroit, working as an accountant for various automotive corporations. They have 4 adult children, Elise (Bob), Leah, Brett (Jess), Neil (Kelsey) and one granddaughter Izabella. Cheryl joined our staff in May 2022.

Beth Wallace

Early Childhood Center Director

Beth was born in Grove City, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Slippery Rock University and also went back to school to get her Lutheran Teaching Certificate from the Concordia Colloquy Program. Beth and Randy have two sons Cam, who is in college at Heidelberg University with a double major in Education and Theatre and plays football for the Berg.  Mac, who teaches and coaches football at Cypress Lake High School. Beth has been on Zion’s staff since July 2010.

JoAnn Deterding

JoAnn was born in Staten Island, NY. She graduated from Wagner College with a B.S. in Elementary Ed. She went back to school to get her Lutheran Teaching Certificate from the Concordia Colloquy program in St. Paul, MN. Jo Ann and Pastor Curtis have 5 children and 5 grandchildren. Jo Ann has been on Zion’s staff since February 2015.

Jacob Roggow

Director of Parish Music

Jacob is a 2020 graduate of Concordia University in Seward, NE, with degrees in Church Music and Music Education K-12 (Lutheran Teachers Diploma). He has a passion for continuing to study music, and using it to praise God in worship and connect with others.

Jacob enjoys spending time with friends and family, exercising, playing soccer, and going to the beach!

Matthew Krupick

Matt was born here in Fort Myers, Florida and has since worked for the Lee County School District. Matt and his wife Fiona have two children. Matt has been on Zion’s staff since November 2009. Matt continues to show what it means to have passion for the Lord and his children.

Rev. Dr. Donald F. Hinchey

Winter Pastor

Donald is contracted for “half time” service during the “snowbird” season to assist with preaching, leading worship, teaching Bible classes and making calls. Pastor Don previously served for 36 years as Senior Pastor of Our Father Lutheran Church in Centennial, Colorado, where he was the original mission developer in 1974. He retired from that congregation in 2010 and has served an intentional interim at First Lutheran Church in Gainesville, FL. Pastor Hinchey was born in Rochester, NY, and has a Master’s Degree from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis and a Doctor of Ministry from Christ Seminary. St. Louis. Pastor Hinchey is married to Margaret (Rickers) Hinchey who serves as a volunteer DCE at Zion. They have three daughters and two grandchildren. Pastor has been on Zion’s staff since December 2014.

Rev. Henry A. Simon

Pastor Hank serves as contemporary worship coordinator at Zion. He is responsible for the Oasis contemporary service at 5 pm Saturdays in the fellowship hall.

Born in Wisconsin, he received a Master of Divinity degree from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis in 1972. He served as a missions writer/editor for The Lutheran Church-Missouri and with congregations in Missouri, Illinois and Maryland. He retired in 2018 after 46 years of full-time ministry.

Pastor Hank married Dr. Mary Manz Simon in 1974. They moved to Fort Myers upon retirement. They have been blessed with three children and five grandsons, all in the Midwest. He enjoys reading, listening to music, writing, visiting family and traveling.

Pastor Hank has been involved with Oasis since a contemporary worship task force was initiated in August 2018. He officially joined Zion’s staff in January 2020.
